Review: A Love Letter to Whiskey
A Love Letter to Whiskey by Kandi Steiner
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
BLURB
It’s crazy how fast the buzz comes back after you’ve been sober for so long.
Whiskey stood there, on my doorstep, just like he had one year before. Except this time, there was no rain, no anger, no wedding invitation — it was just us.
It was just him — the old friend, the easy smile, the twisted solace wrapped in a glittering bottle.
It was just me — the alcoholic, pretending like I didn’t want to taste him, realizing too quickly that months of being clean didn’t make me crave him any less.
But we can’t start here.
No, to tell this story right, we need to go back.
Back to the beginning.
Back to the very first drop.
This is my love letter to Whiskey. I only hope he reads it.
MY OPINION
Okay, so this is a very difficult review for me to write. I was confused when I finished it. I wanted to love it as I've love Weightless (her previous release), I thought I would, but unfortunately I didn't.
A Love Letter to Whiskey started great, and until 20-30% of it I enjoyed it a lot, and I had all the feelings. But after it I just couldn't get with the writing style, it's written as, precisely, kind of a letter, or even a journal. This means we get plenty inner monologues from the protagonist and less action. And I'm an action girl, I like being showed, not only told. So I think this was pretty decisive for me, because I couldn't fully connect with the characters.
I like B and Whiskey, I also hate them for some moments (lol, I know you wanted us to), and I even wanted to slap them really hard, because, seriously? Stop being unhappy just because! But they were cute and I wished I could have felt them deeper.
Anyhow plenty people enjoyed it a lot and had all the feelings, so whether you connect with it or not is something you'll have to discover yourself...
I myself can't wait to read her next story because I usually enjoy her writing and her mind and would love to discover what Kandi, who, no matter what, I really admire as a person and as a writer, has to offer us!
