MY OPINION


"Home?", she asks. "Home", I echo. I know she's talking about a place, but I'm talking about her.

This is a difficult review for me to write, because I totally love it at some points (my teenager giggling version would probably give it 5 stars), but at some others I felt like things were missing.


"Have I told you lately that you're my favorite person?"

This is the story of Thea (19) and Xander (22), who wake up married in Vegas ', at first remembering little of the night. They are best friends and Xander happens to also be Thea's brother's best friend. They all have known each other since they were kids. Thea and Xander have been wanting to be together for years, but they have both denied it because of Cade (Thea's brother). It started as a promising and fun story, given that Xander was amused by the situation and wanted to stay married, but Thea wanted an annulment. At last, they come to an agreement: Xander has the summer to convince her that they are meant for each other and to stay married. Although they were both young it was very sweet seeing them develop their relationship and unleash their desires for the other.

Thea is a girl who is trying to discover what she wants do to with her life, what does she want to mayor at. She's funny even when she preoccupies too much, and loving.
Xander is the ultimate book boyfriend. He's charming, caring, sensitive, smart and good looking. I feel that his character and his struggles were a bit more developed than Thea's ones, because I believe I know him better. It was nice watching him grow and face his fears.

The story had me giggling at so many points. These two are so cute and I totally love them together, but I also felt there was something missing about how they had fell in love. This is book two in a series, but it also can be read as a standalone, given that book one is centered in Rae (Thea's friend) and Cade. Maybe there are some mayor hints about T & X, but I'm not sure of that and I feel that this being told as a standalone could have had some mayor explanation about it.
Problem number two, and probably the biggest one is that close to the finale a mayor issue was developed (I'm not saying what not to spoil anything to anyone) and took a big importance in the book. It was a subject that needed to be given importance, no doubt, and it probably also took some place in the first book (will read it to find out), but in this one had only been mentioned once in a slight way. So when it became the center of the story it felt a bit forced. To me it was like they could have been two separate story telling, and if not it should have been introduced as a part of the plot earlier on it to develop it better since it was a big deal.

All that said, I really enjoyed reading this novel, the writing flew easily, it was a bit poetic when needed and I didn't want to put it down. I still totally love Thea and Xander (I think I have a new book boyfriend) and would love to know more from them, maybe from their pasts or whatever the author would want to give us.

This was my first book of Micalea Smeltzer and it certainly won't be my last. I really enjoy her writing and the way she makes you feel as a teenager in love all over again!

There were also several quotes that I highlighted because they resonated with me. Here I'll leave you some:

• There is only so much you can do to help a person and the rest is up to them.

• Silence is the loudest sound in the world.

• In order to heal, you have to make that step and do the hard thing, instead of letting the pain beat you.

• Words and actions are just as powerful as fists.
